Burj Khalifa tower — the biggest tower in the world

“I am the heart of the city and its inhabitants, a symbol of the shiny dreams of Dubai. More than just a moment in time, I define the moment for future generations. I The Burj Khalifa.” It is this inscription greets visitors to the tallest tower in the world, “the vertical city” — the Burj Khalifa. This building is in many ways unique. What is this uniqueness and originality? We will talk about it in this article.

The Burj Khalifa was built for 6 years, the whole project cost half a billion dollars. But it is worth noting that the cost has paid off … for 1 year. The cost of 1 square meter amounted to a record 40 thousand dollars. In addition, a very popular tourist observation deck of the Burj Khalifa. The tickets sold out for the days ahead. Of its intention to build the tallest skyscraper in the world Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, Sheikh of Dubai, announced in 2002. Sheikh wanted to make Dubai one of the main tourist centers of the world. The Burj Khalifa was given a special place in this project.

Originally the tower was called Burj Dubai (Burj Dubai), which in Arabic means “tower of Dubai”. But 2010, when construction was completed, was also the year the global financial crisis. Therefore, Dubai was forced to ask finansovlozheny in Abu Dhabi. In gratitude for the assistance it was decided to name the tower in honor of the Sheikh of Abu Dhabi to the Burj Khalifa.

During 6 years of construction the tower managed to beat all the existing records on the height of the skyscrapers. So, the record of the Taipei 101 tower that reaches 509 meters in height and is the tallest skyscraper in the world, was beaten after only 3 years after construction began in July 2007. Couple of months later, in September of the same year, the Burj Khalifa broke the record and of the highest structures on the planet — CN Tower (555 m). The final height was not disclosed to the public until the very moment of opening, when it turned out that the tower reaches 828 m in height. It should be clarified that the last 244-meter tower is a steel spire with the necessary communications equipment.

The chief architect was Adrian Smith appointed. He proposed the project to 518 meters, which were enough to break the record of Taipei 101. In the course of project implementation it was changed about 7 times. It’s not very liked Smith, so he has developed 5 options and asked to choose one final. The project has been selected with a height of 828 meters. Given the specific climatic conditions of Dubai, developed a special concrete that could withstand prolonged temperature of 50 °C. For strength concrete in solution (which, incidentally, was flooded only at night) added ice. On average built over 2 floors a week. In addition to concrete, the Burj Khalifa boasts more and special glasses, which were developed under the order. The specificity of glasses that they are part of the heat reflected, thus saving costs on air conditioning.

The tower has 900 apartments, there is also a 300-room hotel (the first 16 floors, and from 19 to 37). 35 floors (111, 121, and 125 to 135) turned into offices.
